This Privacy Policy describes what data niallarnfield.com collects, why, how it’s used, and what choices you have. It’s written in plain English; if anything’s unclear, reach out via the contact details at the bottom.

Who runs this site

This site is operated by Niall Arnfield, an independent designer-developer based in Manchester, United Kingdom. For data-protection purposes I am the data controller for any personal information collected here. You can contact me at niall@niallarnfield.com or via LinkedIn.

What data this site collects

Two distinct things:

  1. Information you actively send me by email. The site doesn’t host a contact form — the “Start a project” and “niall@niallarnfield.com” buttons open your own email client. Anything you put in that email (your name, email address, project details, company, attachments) reaches me directly.
  2. Anonymous usage statistics via Google Analytics 4, but only if you give consent via the cookie banner. If you accept, GA4 records which pages you visit, roughly where you’re visiting from (country, not precise location), what device and browser you use, and how you navigate between pages. Your IP address is anonymised before it reaches Google. If you reject, none of this is collected and no analytics cookies are set.

Why I collect it

How long I keep it

  • Email correspondence: while the conversation is active, plus up to 12 months after it ends. Longer only if a project starts and the engagement requires it (in which case retention follows the engagement contract).
  • Analytics data: retained by Google for the default GA4 retention window (currently 14 months at the time of writing). I don’t export, archive, or process this data outside the GA4 dashboard.

Who else sees the data

  • Google — processes Google Analytics 4 data on my behalf if you consent to analytics cookies. Google’s own privacy policy applies to that data: policies.google.com/privacy.
  • IONOS — the hosting provider for niallarnfield.com. They process server access logs as part of normal hosting operations.
  • No other third parties. I don’t sell, rent, share, or otherwise transfer your data to advertisers, marketers, or any other organisation.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal data I hold about you
  • Ask for a copy of that data
  • Ask me to correct anything that’s wrong
  • Ask me to delete the data (subject to any legal obligation I have to retain it)
  • Object to specific uses of the data, or withdraw consent for analytics at any time
  • Complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you think your rights have been breached: ico.org.uk

To exercise any of these rights, email niall@niallarnfield.com. I’ll respond inside the statutory 30 days — usually much sooner.

Cookies

This site uses one category of cookies, and only with consent:

  • Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4): set only after you click “Accept” on the cookie banner. They identify your browser across pages so visit patterns can be aggregated. You can revoke consent anytime by clicking “Cookie settings” in the footer.

The site doesn’t use:

  • Advertising or remarketing cookies
  • Social-media tracking pixels (Facebook, LinkedIn Insight, etc.)
  • Session-replay or heatmap tools
  • Third-party fonts that fingerprint visitors (Google Fonts on this site is loaded with the privacy-preserving configuration)

Changes to this policy

If I change how the site collects or uses data, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change and the new version will replace this one. Material changes will also be reflected in the cookie banner so returning visitors are prompted to review.
