Hi, I’m Niall Arnfield — a digital systems specialist with over a decade of experience in crafting innovative digital solutions. I hold First-Class degrees in both Computer Games Technology (BSc) and Web Innovation (MRes). My work blends creative design, technical skill, and research-led development to deliver immersive, user-focused experiences across web, interactive media, and 3D environments.
Thanks for taking the time to explore my portfolio. I’m currently open to new job opportunities and contract work, and always keen to connect with forward-thinking teams building meaningful digital products.
Manchester Metropolitan University - 2020 - 1st Class (Mres)
Focused on cutting-edge research in immersive commerce, this degree explored the intersection of UX, 3D web technology, and consumer behavior. My final thesis developed a prototype e-commerce platform that integrated interactive 3D product experiences to improve engagement and conversion.
Manchester Metropolitan University - 2015 - 1st Class (BSc)
This degree laid the foundation for my technical and creative skills in software engineering, 3D environments, and interactive systems. Through hands-on game development and real-time graphics projects, I gained deep experience in C++, Unity, and Unreal Engine—skills that continue to influence my work in immersive web technologies today.
January 2025 - Present.
Delivering digital systems and web platforms for organisations aligned with the UK Civil Service and wider public sector.
My work spans discovery, implementation, and optimisation of web tools that prioritise usability, accessibility, and operational stability — using technologies like Umbraco CMS, Power Platform, and .NET.
I operate as a contractor, collaborating remotely or embedded within client teams to deliver scalable, user-centred solutions.
October 2021 - Present.
Operating as a digital project lead and systems developer focused on delivering scalable, stable web infrastructure for B2B and service-sector clients.
Projects included building custom ecommerce platforms, real-time product configurators, and internal tooling — with a focus on usability, operational performance, and client self-sufficiency.
Work involved leading platform architecture, technical delivery, stakeholder communication, and user training. All systems were designed to meet high accessibility and performance standards, aligned with public-sector best practices where applicable.
January 2017 - March 2020
Led a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project between MMU and REM UK Ltd to design and deliver a fully customised online product configuration platform.
Originally scoped for a multi-person team, the project was delivered single-handedly, covering stakeholder engagement, platform architecture, full-stack web development, and product lifecycle planning.
Managed end-to-end delivery: from system requirements and UX wireframing to testing, deployment, and user training — under tight academic oversight and commercial expectations.
Resulted in a scalable, user-centred web platform still in active commercial use.
Enterprise-grade product configurator powering over 100 websites across 20+ UK companies. Designed for full brand flexibility and real-time visualisation, the platform supports any product line with customisable features, colours, and pricing — all rendered live in the browser.
Used by thousands of users every month, it has become a core sales tool for businesses across multiple industries, driving engagement, streamlining complex ordering, and directly contributing to increased revenue.
Prototype developed to improve patient experience during NHS A&E visits through real-time updates and stress-reducing content.
Originally designed as part of a wider initiative to support NHS service delivery, this tool enhances communication between staff and patients while reducing perceived wait times — helping transform waiting rooms into more informed, reassuring environments.
End-to-end headless system for generating 2D product imagery on-demand from configuration data — streamlining the entire pipeline from asset creation to live white-labelled website deployment.
Built from the ground up with dynamic algorithms in a custom web development environment, this solution powered a scalable 2D product configuration platform used commercially across the UK. It delivered over 50,000 renders for e-commerce, catalogues, and sales tools, while supporting multiple business use cases through automated site generation and branding.
A highly successful commercial project, it was also published as academic research by Manchester Metropolitan University and the UK Government’s Knowledge Transfer Partnership.

After completing several long-running contracts — including the recent delivery of a major digital project — I’m now actively open to new opportunities, both freelance and permanent.
While I remain in conversation with a few clients in the salon furniture sector and may take on select work there, I’m equally excited to explore broader industries where I can apply over a decade of experience in commercial development, UX, systems design, and digital innovation. I’m particularly interested in permanent roles that complement my contract work — though with limited availability, I’ll be choosing my next engagements thoughtfully.
If you're looking for a creative, technically-minded collaborator with a proven track record of delivering real commercial value, I’d love to hear from you.
